Wallow Fire update SITREP – 06/06/11 – 0900 AA

Wallow Fire SITREP – 06/06/11 – 0900 Arizona Time:
  •  Total estimated acreage thus far – 200,000+ acres burned (no differentiation yet as to wildfire burned vs. burn-out activities of agency – that is forthcoming).
  • The burn-out/back-fire activities continue at “Division Echo” which is the Big Lake area and seem to be holding.
  • The South Sector has had to move substantial assets to the Southwest section of the fire by the Apache Reservation lands, San Carlos and White Rivers.
  • Late afternoon and into the evening on 06/05/11 the fire jumped the highways in Nutrioso, Alpine and Blue area.  These are put out and holding as of early morning today.
  • The south side of HWY. 180 is currently not burning and is holding.
  • There have been/are approx. 200 spot fires in the Nutrioso / Alpine areas.
  • The fire made a run across the Blue road, but they got that stopped for now.
  • There have been 5 structures lost in the Nutrioso/Alpine areas.
  • The USFS had a representative there at the Incident Meeting to state that, “everyone please be cooperative because we will be dealing with this fire issue for months”.
  • The best public information number at this point to call is (928) 333-3412, 24 hrs. a day.

  
The Pre-evacuation notices that are in effect right now are:

Greer, AZ
Luna, NM

The areas thus far evacuated are:

Blue River
Alpine
Nutrioso
Escudilla Mountain Estates
Escudilla Bonita
White Mountain Acres
H-V Ranch
This includes CR4000, CR40001, CR4225, Hwy.180/191

The weather will be a big enemy today due to dry thunderstorms, ambient heat and wind.

The fire is currently 0% contained and as the briefing team leader said, “The fire will be contained when the monsoons come at the end of June or beginning of July”.

ADEQ has stated that the air quality is hazardous and listed as extreme at this point.

Below is a picture of the sun with no filters or special effects used – this will give you and idea of the amount of smoke in Eagar.
