#WallowFire - Bill Aymar, Catron County manager. Update Luna NM 06/19/11 1:10 PM
People will be seeing a lot of smoke coming from the Luna area; this is from a real intense back burn along FR 19. We have many crews here working the fire.
Winds are semi-favorable to Luna; although it's blowing hard and steady, it is blowing almost dead north so that the fire that came over the line from the Alpine area is not coming towards Luna at this time. We have NOT evacuated the rest of Luna (only the west side was evacuated yesterday) although some people have left voluntarily. Things are going well, people aren't scrambling.
The primary concern is not the fire coming from the east (Alpine direction) but from the Blue.
At this time US 180 is open on a limited basis between Reserve and Luna but people are being stopped to be sure they have real reason to go towards Luna.
Note that the two Reserve ambulances are gone right now to Silver City, but EMS system is bringing Glenwood up to Reserve to stand by to cover both communities. Reserve ambulances will be back in-county later today.
