#WallowFire IR Log from 06/16/11 2230 MDT flyover

IR map analysis size: 495,016
Growth last period: 8,301

Comments/notes on this mission and interpretation:
  • A general note for the map tonight. Because the fire is cooling down a bit on the north and west sides, more of the isolated heat inside the perimeter is being mapped.
  • Starting on the north side, there were some pockets of scattered heat near the perimeter, but no heat was detected outside the line. There was one area of intense heat on the south side of the highway near the perimeter near Picnico Spring.
  • Most of the heat and perimeter growth tonight was on the east side around Luna Lake. This heat appeared to be filling in from a burnout in the area. The perimeter on the northeast side of the Luna Lake Campground had cooled down, and so the line is approximate. Field verification is needed
  • The southern portion of the fire continues a slow movement to the south with intense heat. There is a large unburned area near Paradise and Moonshine Parks that is now fully within the fire perimeter. The perimeter has grown to Blue and Indian Peaks.
  • There was quite a bit of heat on the southwest side of the fire in Warren Canyon. This heat appears to be from a burnout that is filling in.
  • The west side of the fire has been relatively quiet.
