Wallow Fire - update, a little delayed

Had some technical difficulties - InciWeb went down briefly and we're still having trouble accessing it.  However, we're getting feed from the site from elsewhere, plus calling the hotline.

According to the phone hotline:.

  • 10 structures have been lost and 1 damaged, however info about location and what kind was not available.
  • 343 structures are considered threatened, which means there is fire very close to them and/or in line with the direction the fire is going.  Areas that have been evacuated have fire personnel there to protect structures, so being threatened does NOT mean they will be burned.
  • Winds in the Springerville/Eagar area are fairly calm and not contributing to fire expansion at this time, however as a result smoke is heavy and not moving.
  • As you could see from the maps posted earlier, at 1:38 a.m. fire was active north of Nelson Reservoir, 2-3 miles southeast of Greer, 8 miles south of Springerville/Eager area, on the north and northeast side of Escudilla Bonita mountain, north and south of Luna Lake (east of Alpine).  The fire at that time still had not crossed the border into New Mexico.
