Wallow Fire SITREP Morning Cooperator Meeting 8am (AZ)

SITREP Report of Morning Cooperator Meeting
07Jun11
0800-0850 Hrs. AZ time
Doyel Shamley

  • The Wallow fire as of 0138 Hrs. on the IR Fly-over maps is now at 311,291 acres burned.
  • There was a large amount of activity on 06/06/11 due to the 30-50 mph winds combined with the “hurricane force winds” being generated by the fire itself.
  • The most aggressive time for the fire advancement on 06/06/11 was between the hours of 1300-1700 hrs. AZ time. Then picking-up again at 2300 hrs., before finally calming down in the early morning hours of 06/07/11.
  • The fire activity is expected to get very aggressive again on 06/07/11 between the hours of 1300-1800 hrs. due to heat, expected wind, etc.
  • Luna, NM is still at a pre-evacuation stage.
  • Eagar and Springerville, AZ are still at a pre-evacuation stage as well.
  • At anytime these three areas could receive their evacuation notice, or not (let’s try and think positive). Anybody in these areas should be ready to leave at a moments notice.
  • The structural losses in the Alpine/ Nutrioso area are still at 5, with 4 in Alpine and 1 in Nutrioso.
  • The areas burning around Escudilla and on top have been stopped and are holding with a Type-1 team staying there.
  • There are now 3 divisions working the Wallow fire. One division is working on a line at Nelson Resevoir and over the top of the ridges. Another division is working on a line to defend Greer, Sunrise and South Fork. The third division is working on a line for the San Carlos and Whiteriver areas.
  • There are only 16 divisions in the U.S. and we have 3 of them on the Wallow Fire.
  • There is still a full Type-1 team in the Nutrioso and Alpine area keeping that under control and eliminating spot fires.
  • A cell phone tower is being added in Nutrioso today to restore communications.
  • The North Sector will remain under the control of the current Type I teams, Incident Command, etc.
  • The sector from Alpine to the SW corner at San Carlos and Whiteriver is currently switching to be under the command of a Type-1 team out of the NorthWest.
  • A base-camp is being set-up today in Reserve to command the fire for the NM side.
  • Another Type-1 team is setting-up today in Whiteriver.
  • As far as the national incident command and control centers, the Wallow fire is now the #1 priority in the nation.
  • As a region, the SouthWest is now the #1 priority in the nation.
  • Due to these priority levels, an area command is moving in today, and “may be set-up” (according to the USFS) and running by tomorrow morning.
  • On the National Incident “DEFCON” scale of a 1 to 5 system, the Wallow fire is a class 5 or another words the highest priority.
  • There will be a public meeting at the Round Valley Auditorium at 1800 Hrs. 06/07/11.
