Wallow Fire - no new news from PIO

No morning update available from the Public Info Officer (PIO) as they are waiting for the newest info
This is info from last night at 11:30.  It may not be different from what I reported earlier.

  • Size = 192746 acres
  • 0% containment
  • Personnel:  2315 person including 31 hotshot teams, 25 hand teams, 12 dozers, 138 engines, 31 water tenders, 22 helicopters and an unknown number of fixed wing aircraft
  • Community meetings are being held regularly.  The next = 6 PM Round Valley HS Auditorium
  • Evacuated:  Blue River (AZ)
  • Evacuated:  Alpine & Nutrioso (AZ)
  • Evacuated:  Escudilla Estates (NM)
  • Evacuated:  Escudilla Bonita (NM)
  • Evacuated:  White Mt. Acres (AZ)
  • Evacuated:  H-V Ranch (NM)
  • Evacuated:  Anyone near AZ County Rd 4000, 4001, 4225
  • Pre-evacuation notice given:  Greer 
  • Pre-evacuation notice given:  Luna 
  • Hwy 60 reopened (it was closed a short time yesterday due to heavy smoke conditions.  Travelers should note it could be closed again if conditions warrant doing so)
  • Hwy 180 closed from Nelson Reservoir (AZ) to intersection of US 180 & NM 12 (NM)
  • Hwy 191 closed (AZ)
  • We are in RED FLAG conditions
  • In Alpine no new structure loss
  • Unknown if there has been structure loss in Nutrioso
  • Apache National Forest CLOSED to ALL PUBLIC ENTRY
Note that the fire has been divided in two for management purposes.  Northern Zone Type 1 team handles the fire near Eagar/Springerville/Greer area and the Southern Zone Type 2 team handles the part near Alpine/Luna area.  InciWeb must wait for info from both zones to compile news releases, which is why it takes so long.

Note:  The Public Info Officer (PIO) who provided this information has herself been evacuated from her home in Nutrioso.  She urges us all to give thanks to the fire fighters.
