#WallowFire Richard Torres tour of the fire

#WallowFire Richard Torres tour of the fire

As the news information caravan headed west on Highway180, fire crews from Boise, ID and Bitterroot, MT were observed clearing brush just inside the state line on the New Mexico side. Continuing west, we took a short stop at Luna Lake. Photo below shows smoke billowing up Northeast of Luna Lake.

We then proceeded to travel south on Arizona Forest Road 204-destination the hatchery, approximately 23 miles. Approximately one half mile in from Highway 180 on forest road 204, both sides of the road were burned. On the west side of the road, next to residences, N.E.C. crews were observed replacing electrical poles. Residences on both sides of road did not show any evidence of burns. Photo below shows where bulldozers carved-out fire break lines around houses. Discoloration on the ground may have been slurry residue.(Public Information Officers Sean Johnson, Betsy Coffee, and Brendan Hagan provided information during the trip).
