Significant Events: Fire actively backed in Divisions KK, Z and Y to locations where air resources were utilized to slow the southward progression in order to complete indirect line construction and continuing preparation of the secondary containment lines. Fire intensity lessened on Divisions C, A and B from previous firing operations allowing crews to patrol and mop-up. Rehab of handline and dozer line began in Division D.Remarks: The IHCs assigned are needed for at least 2 additional shifts to prepare for and conduct firing operations in Branch 12. They are needed to be line spike capabale due to the terrain of the area and complexity of the planned firing operations. The plan exceeds the capability of other crew types. Timelines for these operations falls within the remaining assignment length without the needed for extensions.
Observed Fire Behavior: In Branch 12, active backing fire was observed in the timber until locations where wind and available fuels aligned to establish uphill runs. In Branches 10 and 11, interior islands of unburned mixed conifer displayed group tree torching.
Planned Actions: Completion of the indirect and secondary containment lines by IHCs in Divisions Z, Y and KK. Divisions A, B, C and D will patrol and mop-up. Resources in the Sunrise Structure Protection Group will continue to provide the structure preparation necessary.
