USFS: New starts Gila National Forest

Northern Gila Fire Update 6/14/2013 

Below are new starts on the North end of the Gila National Forest. This includes the Glenwood, Quemado, and Reserve Ranger Districts. Sharma Hutchinson will be the Public Information Officer covering those Districts. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Reserve Ranger District Office at (575) 533-6231. Unless there is a significant change in fire activity, there will be no Fire Update for those fires tomorrow but will resume Sunday.

Friday, June 14, 2013 – Fire Update

Quemado Ranger District, (575) 773-4678

Pratt Fire: Detected 6/13/13, and located approximately 12 miles northwest of Luna, New Mexico. Engine resources worked on the fire into the night and today will continue mop up any interior heat. The fire was contained today at 2 acres. 15 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Reserve Ranger District, (575) 533-6231

Sign Camp Fire: Detected 6/14/2013, and located approximately 10 miles south of Reserve, New Mexico. Engine resources and Type 3 Helicopter responded to the lightning ignition this afternoon and completed line. Mop up efforts will continue tomorrow. The fire is currently 1 acre. 10 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Fire and Smoking Restrictions

Fire restrictions for the Gila National Forest include allowing campfires only in designated developed campgrounds and picnic areas, which must be in a Forest Service provided grill or fire pit. Fires in rock rings will not be allowed. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices are acceptable, provided they meet the fire underwriter’s specifications for safety. Smoking is limited to a vehicle, building, or 3-foot area cleared of all flammable materials.
